Privacy Policy
Effective October 11, 2026
This Privacy Policy describes how Talkative collects, uses, shares, and retains personal information when you visit or use the service. Please read it with the Terms and Conditions. If you do not agree, do not create an account or use the service.
Who is responsible and how to contact us
For privacy questions, requests, or complaints, contact support@talkative.space.
Information we collect
We collect the information you provide to create and manage an account, including your name, email address, username, date of birth, gender, home country, and password. We do not ask for a phone number to register. We use your email to manage your account and, where available, to send verification and important account messages. You may choose to add a bio, profession, education, or location. We also process messages and information you submit when reporting or blocking someone, as well as account, moderation, and service-usage activity.
Country is optional and can be changed in your profile; we do not ask for it during signup. If you use Google sign-in, we store Google's account identifier and verified email and link them to your Talkative account. A verified Google email matching an existing account signs into that same account, rather than creating a duplicate. Google-only accounts do not need a password; adding one requires an emailed verification code.
When you use Talkative, we may receive basic information about your device, browser, connection, and interactions with the service, such as IP address, timestamps, and cookie or similar identifiers. This can be used to keep the service working, remember your sign-in, prevent abuse, protect accounts, understand overall service use, and meet legal obligations. Your browser may also save your theme preference.
How we use information
We use information to create and secure accounts; verify email addresses; match participants and provide conversations; show online status and service activity; display profile details you choose to share; respond to requests; investigate reports; enforce our rules; improve and maintain Talkative; prevent fraud, abuse, and security incidents; and comply with legal requirements.
Information shown to other participants
A matched participant may see your first name, an age category rather than your exact date of birth, gender, home country, conversation score, and usage streak. Your bio, profession, education, and location are shown only when you enable each field's sharing control. Your username, email address, exact date of birth, and password are not shown to chat participants. Do not put private or sensitive information in a profile field or message.
Global chat messages are visible to signed-in participants and to visitors during a two-minute preview. Your first name is shown with each message; your username and private account details are not. We keep up to 500 recent global chat messages in service state, removing older messages as new ones are added. Do not post personal or confidential information.
Messages, reports, and safety
We process messages to provide conversations and may review conversation content, reports, blocks, and related records when needed to investigate safety concerns, enforce the Terms, improve the service, resolve disputes, or comply with law. Please report or block participants who make you feel unsafe. Do not rely on Talkative for emergency assistance.
If both participants choose to stay in touch during an active conversation, Talkative saves their connection and messages so they can continue chatting after that conversation ends. These contact messages remain available while the connection exists. Either participant can remove the connection, which removes the saved contact messages for both participants; blocking also removes the connection and its messages. Account deletion removes contact messages associated with the account. If you enable browser notifications, a notification may show the other participant's first name, but not the message content.
When we share information
We may share information with service providers who help us operate, secure, support, or improve Talkative, subject to appropriate safeguards; with other participants as described above; with professional advisers; and with authorities or other parties when required by law or reasonably necessary to protect people, rights, or the service. We may also disclose relevant information in connection with a business reorganisation or transfer, subject to applicable law. We do not make your private account details visible to other participants except as described in this Policy.
Advertising, cookies, and similar technologies
Talkative may display advertising. If we use Google AdSense or another advertising provider, that provider may receive information about your visit and use cookies or similar technologies to deliver, measure, or personalise ads, subject to its own privacy terms and your available settings. Where required, we will request consent before using non-essential advertising technologies. You can manage cookies through your browser and use the advertising provider's controls for personalised advertising. Blocking cookies may affect some service features.
International processing
We and our service providers may process information in countries other than the country where you live. Where required, we will use appropriate safeguards and comply with applicable rules governing international transfers.
Retention and account deletion
Login and account activity records include the connection IP address, timestamp, sign-in method, outcome, and troubleshooting reference. These records follow our configured activity-log retention period, which defaults to 30 days. Ended random-chat transcripts have a separate 24-hour retention period. These IP records are not shown to other participants.
We retain information for as long as reasonably necessary for the purposes described in this Policy, including providing the service, safety and moderation, account administration, resolving disputes, and meeting legal or regulatory obligations. The period depends on the type of information and why it is needed. Some information may remain after account deletion where necessary for these purposes or where the law permits or requires it. We do not promise a single fixed deletion period for every category of information.
You can request account deletion from Account Settings. Deletion removes your account from use of the service; it does not necessarily erase information that we must or may retain for the reasons above. You may also contact us to ask about your information or exercise rights available under applicable law, including access, correction, deletion, or withdrawal of consent. You can turn off optional profile sharing in your account settings. Withdrawing consent does not affect processing already carried out lawfully, and may affect features that depend on the information. We may need to verify your identity and explain if a request cannot be fully completed.
Children
Talkative is for people aged 18 and older. We do not knowingly permit children to create accounts. If you believe a child has provided information to us, contact us using the details above so we can review the report and take appropriate action.
Security and changes
We take reasonable steps to protect information, but no service can guarantee that information will always be secure. We may update this Policy as the service or applicable requirements change. We will post the current version here and update its effective date. Where required, we will provide additional notice or obtain consent.
Sharing a conversation image
If you choose to create and share an image of a conversation, the image is prepared on your device and sent using the sharing feature you select or saved to your device. Review the image before sharing it; anyone who receives it may keep or redistribute it.
